A single objective microscope designed and made by Antony van leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) has recently been discovered in a dollś-house attributes collection in the UK. The Museum Boerhaave has proven that the unique antique microscope was designed and build by van Leeuwenhoek himself by comparing it with the five real 'van Leeuwenhoekjes' as present in its collection.

The Dutch Van Leeuwenhoek is considered to be the "Father of Microbiology" and played a very important role in the early development of the optical microscope.
The recently discovered microscope was part of a collection in the UK for centuries without the owners knowing its historical value. The whole collection was recently purchased by Bert Degenaar on behalf of a Dutch foundation planetarium Zuylenburgh. Alerted by the likeliness to other Van Leeuwenhoek single lens microscopes he requested further investigation.

The microscope will be on display at the Leiden Science Museum until the end of June 2015, fter that it will be transferred to the Planetarium Zuylenburg near Utrecht (NL).

The manager of the Golub collection in Berkeley, Dr. Steve Ruzin was present when the microscope was discoverd to be a real 'Van Leeuwenhoek'.
