Andor Dragonfly

The Andor Dragonfly is a spinning disk system containing an array of microlenses, which efficiently guides the laser beams into pinholes.

Other systems like the Yokogawa Disks typically have a 1:10 ratio between physical pinhole spacing of about 253 microns and pinhole radius of 25 microns (50 µm in diameter). The Andor Dragonfly has different pinhole sizes and distances. See the tables below to find values for your specific microscope.

Andor DragonFly 200

According to metadata we received with Andor Dragonfly 200 still disk image files, it has an internal magnification factor of 1.078. Follow the tables below to find the back projected pinhole radius and distance values.

If your microscope reports another internal magnification, then you should multiply these values by 1.078 and divide by your specific internal magnification value to get the backprojected pinhole values that fit your microscope.

100× 116 nm 7.240 µm
60× 193 nm 12.07 µm
40× 290 nm 18.10 µm
20× 580 nm 36.20 µm
10× 1160 nm 72.40 µm

100× 186 nm 7.240 µm
60× 309 nm 12.07 µm
40× 464 nm 18.10 µm

10× 1855 nm 72.40 µm

These backprojected pinhole radius values were calculated and verified with information and measurements of still disks from an Andor Dragonfly 200 system, sent to us by Gabriel Martins and his staff at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) in Lisbon.

Andor DragonFly 505

Data from an Andor Dragonfly 505 system with no internal magnification seems to suggest that we have to multiply the above mentioned values by 1.078, because that system contained no internal extra magnification.
