Exciting position for a 'Scientific Image Processing - Software Developer''


We are looking for a (junior) "Scientific Image Processing - Software Developer" for our headquarters in Hilversum. As a scientific developer you will be involved in the complete life cycle of the Huygens software: from developing new image processing algorithms for microscopy to the integration of those algorithms in our software suite. In the last few years such algorithms included the development of methods for the restoration of STED microscopy images, light-sheet image restoration, registration, stitching, stabilization, correction of image distortions, analysis, etc. The ideal candidate has experience in image processing (in any programming language, e.g. C or Matlab), has a strong mathematical background and is able to turn new image processing algorithms into production code.

Requirements:

  • Education: University
  • Experience in image processing and scientific software.
  • Interest and preferably background knowledge in microscopy and optics.
  • Programming experience in C. Knowledge of OpenMP, CUDA and Tcl/Tk is a plus.
  • Development experience in Linux.
  • Fluent English and Dutch is a must.

Scientific Imaging Consultant

Hours: 32-40
Location: Office-based in Hilversum
Salary: competitive and available upon serious interest.
Education & background: Msc or PhD in microscopy or molecular biology with affinity for communication.

In this position, the successful candidate will become a specialist in the deconvolution, restoration and analysis of fluorescence microscopy images. You will become an expert in communicating the benefits of our flagship Huygens software to new or existing customer, therewith selling the software.

Our customers are highly skilled researchers active in life science research in academia and industry distributed globally. You will help them address their research questions by consulting which tools are best suitable to their research question. On a daily basis, the successful candidate 1) understands the practical position of the customer 2) understands the research question they are posing 3) applies his or her knowledge of microscopy and image analysis to consult which Huygens tools they need to solve their research question 4) communicates this effectively to the customer 5) thereby generates revenue for SVI.

  • Provide technical training and support to customers and prospects via web conferencing, email and phone.

Job Description

Scientific Volume Imaging is a high-tech software developer for scientific applications, specifically fluorescence microscopy. An attractive and intuitive user interface is crucial to help our users make best use of our tools, thus enabling them to advance their scientific research.
In this position, you’ll be part of our expert team of software developers, focusing on creating and improving existing graphical user-interfaces with Tcl/Tk and to a lesser degree PHP with HTML/CSS/JS. Mathematics skill is a plus, as it will enable you to take on a broader scope of development tasks.
As part of our team, you are expected to learn about software life cycle, code maintainability and the application of our tools. Thus, there is a strong opportunity for personal development. In addition, you’ll be communicating with members of the development team as new features are constantly added.
