Huygens Image Quality Control

If you're uncertain about your acquisition, unsure how check the quality of your image, or aiming to monitor your microscope's performance, this unique Huygens Image Quality Control option is your invaluable companion! Automatically detecting common pitfalls affecting image quality in every microscopic image, this tool improves your science.

The Image Quality Control (QC) option is available for both Huygens Essential and Professional. It meticulously searches for a wide array of imaging issues in both sample and bead (calibration) data. Comprehensive details of potential issues are clearly presented and explained. In case of bead images, a broad set of point spread function (PSF) properties are provided. Options to promptly fix the detected issues can be directly accessed from the QC tool. A free online version of the QC tool with limited functionality is available on this webpage.

Automatic Quality Control

The Quality Control option can also be used to analyse various properties of your microscope PSF.

Quality Control of any image

Simply select a sample or bead/calibration image and start the QC tool. Within minutes a status report is presented with clear information about each identified issue, along with guidance on how to prevent and solve them.

Huygens QC option checks for the following image properties and issues:

Microscopic parameters Relative Nyquist Rates Signal-to-Noise (SNR) estimation Clipping Bleaching Crosstalk Hot and Cold pixels Chromatic Aberration Detector Alignment (useful for Array Detector data) Stabilization PSF Shape (when using bead images, see below)

PSF shape analysis

Huygens Quality Control option is able to check bead image data for all the issues described above. In addition, it determines the level of the Point-spread-function (PSF) quality of your microscope, and offers a full report which can be exported as a CSV file for monitoring the microscope performance. This report includes the following parameters:

FWHM bead average FWHM PSF FWHM theoretical PSF PSF asymmetry PSF surface sphericity PSF tilting PSF skewed intensities

Note: PSF shape analysis in the QC option requires the PSF Distiller option.

Huygens tools for Image Restoration
